DST63504 [Introduction of Pattern Drafting and Garment Making] - Week 12

Hi, Jelly here. This week, I went to Masjid India district to buy more supplies, specifically the buttons and threads that I thought I might need. Our lecturer mentioned a place in Chinatown for us to buy buttons or other types of accessories, but I wasn't quite sure how to look for the place as I can't find it on the google maps. I did found cute buttons though, I just hope that its huge enough, or nice enough for a go ahead to use it. It was my first time in the district as well, so it was quite a fun trip. Plus, I was not alone so I didn't get lost :3 (It was cute they had the signs on the road)   I began to work on the shirt the next day after. I already cut the pattern at home so I just had to cut the fabric in school. It looked promising, but I was starting to worry if it were to be tight on the model or not. I know, its soon to tell, and I did test it out on calico, but I'm still uncertain about it a little bit. Though, mostly excited. (A piece cut...

DST63504 [Introduction of Pattern Drafting and Garment Making] - Week 11

Since I had nothing but patterns that I tried to make last week, I set myself up to just start making the skirt first, as by design, it looked quite simple. It was worrisome as I kinda started late, and clueless. I started to draw the skirt pattern using the skirt block we cut weeks ago. It was the same process as when I made the calico skirt, the difference was the length of the skirt, and how it was asymmetrical now.   In my design, it looked like the cut was from mid thigh, but I feel like that would be too short and the model may feel quite uncomfortable with that despite that I would later be adding a draping after. So, instead, I measured and cut from 8 cm towards knee length, with allowance of 3 cm.  (Back skirt pattern)   After finishing the pattern, I immediately cut it onto fabric and start sewing the darts. Then, I used the overlock machine for the sides of the skirt. This took me a while to do because all the machines were occupied and not to men...

DST63504 [Introduction of Pattern Drafting and Garment Making] - Week 10

Hi, it's Jelly again. I missed class this week :(. Last week, I went to the fabric store with my friends but I fell ill right after. Since I wasn't able to attend class, I tried to do the final project pattern drafting at home. (Initial shirt pattern) I was definitely clueless on what to do so I just drew the pattern by imagination, on an A3 drawing paper. I sent it to Ms. Melina and after a while, she gave me a thumbs up, and asked whether I wanted to try out the pattern. So I did, in a small scale. I tested the basic shirt pattern on a small-sized calico. (Calico tryout) (Shirt Pattern) It felt good to get my hands on the physical garment-making process as it was fun to do. In the end, I did not use the initial pattern that I made up in my head. Because I don't have the brains to count it's measurements at the time, or that if its actually possible. Instead, I tried to make one with the darts that was already introduced to me weeks ago, because it felt more ...

DST63504 [Introduction of Pattern Drafting and Garment Making] - Week 9

Hi, it's Jelly again. This week, I only continued on making the shirt. I fixed the pocket and tried to sewed it as nicely as possible since I'm not yet trained to sew that small. And remember that I told you guys I sewed the darts last week right? Turns out I forgot about the back shirt block so I started with those (I was gladly able to secure a nice sewing machine TT). Righter after that, I connected the front pieces and the back piece of the shirt. (Back piece dart complete, YAY) The next step for me to do was making the sleeve so that I'll be able to sew the pieces together, completely, as now it still looked like an untidy vest. So I started by I fold the hem of the sleeve and sewed it. Then I top-stitched the sleeve on it's allowance twice, then gathered it so that it would fit the armhole. As I was still new to it, I found it strange that we had to gather it first but Yumna said that we always do that for sleeves.so, gather I did. (Sewing hem of sleeve) (Top s...

DST63504 [Introduction of Pattern Drafting and Garment Making] - Week 8

Hi, it's Jelly here. Can't believe it's week 8 already :D. I started the week by trying to continue drawing the shirt block so that I would be able to cut it out to sew the shirt later on. Since I have a limited set of rulers, though, I tried to make it look as precise as it can but truly, without the right rulers, you wouldn't be getting anything right TT.  (Drawing the collar) I did everything already except for the armhole and neck part because of insufficient ruler. It was too weird for me to use the hip ruler so I really have to buy the armhole ruler, but for now I'm just going to borrow it from Yumna or Josephine again. But when I arrive for class on Thursday though, there was a slight change of plans. Since we were approaching the end of the semester real soon, Ms Melina told us to start cutting the shirt parts by using the cardboard blocks she had prepared. So we cut them, just like she told us to. At least now I'm rest assured that everyone would have t...

DST60604 [Introduction to Fashion Design]

Image
Week 1 (23/04/25) Hello, my name is Jelita Joice Maharani but you can call me Jelly. Today (23/04/25) was the day when I would have the next course in Fashion Design. To be honest, it was the class I look most forward to the moment I saw my schedule because the class itself is called "Introduction to Fashion Design". I was very excited to be in this class but it's quite baffling how I arrived 5 minutes late.   When I first saw the class, Fashion Studio 4, I was surprised to see that the lecturer was there, even though, it would be an obvious thing since I was late... but good thing it was that it was our first time meeting the lecturer. What a bad first impression it was to not be punctual on the day of the meet but at least he hasn't any attendance yet.   I immediately went in and sat whatever seats were open. My classmates were passing around attendances and so I filled out my name on it before the lecturer started to introduce himself. His name is Mr. Jasmi Rejab b...
