DST60604 [Introduction to Fashion Design]
Week 1 (23/04/25)
Hello, my name is Jelita Joice Maharani but you can call me Jelly. Today (23/04/25) was the day when I would have the next course in Fashion Design. To be honest, it was the class I look most forward to the moment I saw my schedule because the class itself is called "Introduction to Fashion Design". I was very excited to be in this class but it's quite baffling how I arrived 5 minutes late.
When I first saw the class, Fashion Studio 4, I was surprised to see that the lecturer was there, even though, it would be an obvious thing since I was late... but good thing it was that it was our first time meeting the lecturer. What a bad first impression it was to not be punctual on the day of the meet but at least he hasn't any attendance yet.
I immediately went in and sat whatever seats were open. My classmates were passing around attendances and so I filled out my name on it before the lecturer started to introduce himself. His name is Mr. Jasmi Rejab but we were to call him Mr. JR. Right after, he gestured my classmates to introduce themselves.
When everyone has introduced one another, Mr. JR went straight to business. While there were technicalities during the debriefing of assignments, he explained it well for me to understand how dire it is to finish the tasks on a timely matter. But during the debriefing, all I can think of is about the Final Project. I mean, it would be my first runway show, so I felt really excited about it. To create a garment that I designed on my own... it felt as though I am getting closer towards a dream i once had when I was young. And I really want to achieve that, no matter what.
Right after the debriefing of assignments, we went on to start on our first task, which would take 4 weeks to do. It would be on researching on the specific garment that would be our main theme for the Final Project: The Shirt. So, I did that. There were 13 criteria that must be researched on and 5 different images for each criteria. Then, I must compile them into a PowerPoint presentation in order for Mr. JR to assess what I've researched so far. Sounds like a lot, isn't it? It does. But no matter, researching should be the easier thing to do in this course, I hope. This was the example that Mr JR showed us in class:
So far, I've only done research but haven't made it into a PowerPoint presentation yet. I may have made a slide or two but the rest hasn't made it on page yet. I'm thinking too much on this task that my brain got into a halt. I worry that I might not be able to find this specific criteria or whatnot that I didn't get much done. I hope I'll get this done soon. My goal would be next week, so that by the third week, I can submit it to Mr. JR, let him assess it, and await for the feedback.
Well that was how my week went by, see you next week.
Week 2 (30/04/25)
Week 2 was a bit of a surprise. I arrived early this time, but Josephine and I decided to go and visit the CNS Festival since it was the last day. Why did I not just go right after class? Well, the festival would have ended by then. It doesn't justify that I was late, again, to class... but I was glad I went and see it.
A new student unexpectedly joined our class, which threw me off for a bit. I initially thought he was a senior until I heard that he just started joining class this week. Right after, we were told to continue working on Assignment 1, while Mr. JR asked us one by one on our progress.
He pointed out that we were quite late, as I too may have only completed 6 out of 13 required criteria, while the others are still researched on (picture saved) and hasn't been put on the PowerPoint presentation yet. Hearing that was making me feel quite embarrassed though that pushed me to grind through the weekend and finish most of the slides. This was what I trying to complete: I may have skipped one or a few slides in between the given shirt criteria.
When Mr JR passed through where I was sitting, he asked me if I have a laptop or tab because I was only using my phone, hence the screen was too small and he wasn't able to look at the resolution. I actually have my laptop but it's too old to use and it lags too much for my own comfort. In the end I used the phone still though, but I guess it would've been better if I have a bigger screen. So far I'm just going to utilize my laptop whenever I wanted to show the presentation.
I may also have had a hard time translating the research, on my brain, about the technical drawing as I may be a bit fussy with it. I noticed that some were drawn, some were found on the internet, as it was shown on the example that was shown last week. Haven't had a clear head on how to do it but at least I'm almost done with research of all 13 criteria. I keep on worrying about it because I could've misinterpret instructions and I'm not that good in asking questions. Not to mention most of the technical drawings I found were not similar with the pictures I got from Pinterest. Hopefully I'll get a clear head soon though, I just need a lot of time to think :"( especially on the "Epaulette" criteria as I wasn't really sure if epaulette was just an accessory or a fully functional part of the shirt.
On the weekend, I tried to complete the PPT, especially the technical drawings as I decided to draw them myself and edit a few technical drawings I found in Ibis Paint because I was still not able to find the exact drawings for the images that I have chosen. As for the epaulettes, I asked my sister if perhaps she can try drawing one that looks like one from the picture because it looked really complicated for me to draw and I still had more other to draw.
At this point, I'm still quite unsure how one draw a technical drawing of epaulettes, fastenings, and seams because it doesn't look like it would have a technical drawing (or maybe I'm just confused on that term) so I just found drawings that looked similar to those images and used them. I will definitely ask about them during next class.
Week 3 (7/05/25)
On week 3, Mr. JR started to brief us on our next assignment, which is on design inspiration and clothing design, specifically the Shirt as it would be our final project for the semester. He introduced us on several types of subjects that we can take on as inspirations, like nature, architecture, and history. Then we have to proceed on drawing 10 designs first to show to him next week, to get approval to continue making another 10 designs. He also mentioned that no inspiration for a collection is no go and all my life I just drew what I like so... let's see how this would go :D. This was definitely one of the most exciting part that I've been waiting for, because finally, we're gonna start designing now.
There were options if ever we do not want to draw by hand or digitally. We were taught on how to do it via Photoroom by searching for the models and technical drawings online, then erase the background so that we can use them like a sticker, specifically like those stickers I used to buy where we can stick different clothing onto the sticker avatar.
(Model I made using a model I found on Pinterest)
After briefing us on the next assignment, we still have to complete the current assignment first. Though I was done when the week arrived, I do need a few clarification before my submission. I asked my classmate a lot whether the crtieria (like Seams and Finishings) I did are already fine or not, though to be honest it would've been much better if I asked our lecturer instead. I was still kinda shy so I sought help somewhere else. I did ask our lecturer whether or not a Chef outfit is a 'Distinguished' shirt, as it is one of the criteria listed. Got confirmed it isn't so I found something else instead. In the end, Assignment 1 finally got submitted! A huge relief it was when I clicked on the submission tab.
Over the weekend, I began designing 10 outfit concepts. Not gonna lie, I still had no idea what inspiration to choose from. Looking at those list of inspiration was making me think a lot. Though I did started to draw after watching a K-Pop music video, 'FM' by Crayon Pop. Now that look at it, it reminds me of historical fantastical era, maybe steampunk, or dark academia. I'm not sure how it'll go next week, though. Other than that, I tried to do the Photoroom option but I felt like it was taking me so long to collect the images then paste it there, just like how I would have love it to be. Nonetheless, it was quite a fun activity. I just have to be more time efficient next time if I were to use that method. Maybe look for more technical drawings first before starting.
(First 3 designs, nvm the hideous drawing HAHAH)
Week 4 (14/05/25)
This week was intense :"). The moment I walked into the classroom, I initially felt safe because I did draw 10 designs. But when I thought through again that day, well, after talking to my friends about it, sharing each other's designs before class started, my inspiration was quite unclear, ambiguous, even. And just like what I expected, Mr. JR didn’t approve of my inspiration, as I was confused about it myself. When he initially told us to collect our drawings into one spot so that he can explain better that the inspirations should be represented, he set me aside so that we can talk more on what to do about my drawings. Deep down, I was so embarrassed because I felt so unprepared and wrong about all this. I remember feeling that my face was hot, and that my heart was beating so fast due to that. I definitely don't want to feel that way again, but this girl knows that she will still embarrass herself like this again one day.
(Our drawings laid out on table for discussion)
After checking out everyone's progress, like I said, he set me aside to talk about my designs. He suggested that I use the Renaissance as my new theme, which I ended up loving. Starting the class I felt giddy, then, nervous, then ultimately giddy again because I wasn't scolded or anything, and having Renaissance as my inspo this time. I really love looking at historical shows so I was pretty hyped up when he mentioned it. I agreed to it immediately and spent the rest of the class designing. Oh, he did mention that for those who would be drawing by hand should just draw on A3 paper so that it would be easy to look at.
I ended up completing 7 designs that day.
(First 7 designs)
Knowing that Renaissance is my inspiration, I was initially confused: What part of Renaissance am I going to take from? I don't know how I ended up with this painting I found online
I ended up mashing a few paintings together for these whole designs. I took inspiration from he magnanimous fashion they had during Renaissance, mostly important figures of the time, like King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, and Lucrezia Borgia.
I didn't realise how fast time flew that day. End of the day, I went home happy and excited to continue designing. So I managed to complete 20 before the next class, which is super duper nice because it might be the first for me to complete anything way before due time. Though, I might have to start researching, so I borrowed a few books from the library and compiled the mindmapping research into a G-Docs... then I just left it at there for the moment.
(My 20 Designs)
When taking a picture of it, though, it looked scratchy so I decided to retrace it by pen. So I retraced the designs so that I can scan it better and put a model behind it.
(Retracing the designs)
Honestly, I don't know if I should be doing this in the near future as it seems like I'm doing double the effort, which is definitely not good in a long run because our lecturer did mention that we should be designing maybe 20 in a week or more TT. I also kinda hate doing lineart as I'm not really good at doing things twice, and that I have shaky hands, so I'm confident using a pen that can glide it's way through any surface (same reason why I don't draw digitally). I think I should just make a paper stencil so that I can just redraw it, making it look neater that it is now if I don't plan on drawing digitally, as I'm bad with it. Or, try learning to draw digitally now to ease myself up for the near future.
Week 5 (21/05/25)
This week, I laid out my designs on the table for our lecturer to see, because that's what he asked us to do, for those who drew by hand. As I did that, I was able to look at everyone else's designs and boy they look so awesome, I can definitely see what was going on in the designs, and they look all so unique and pretty.
Well, since mine was still faceless and hairless, he told me to just continue on refining it. So I did. He did chose a few that looked promising and asked me to make adjustments on some of the designs, which boosted my energy because feedback, YAY :D. Means I'm doing it right so it was nice to know. Yet also, nooo... because I already traced it using a pen :(. It's unfortunate and now I know that before the lecturer confirms anything, don't use pen yet. But at least I only need to adjust 3, and only having to adjust 3 sounds awesome to me, though I'm unsure if it's because my designs were acceptable or just confusing to look at, as he did say that too many things are going on in my designs...
So the rest of the day, I just drew faces on the models, drew their limbs as well because I erased some of them after retracing it with pen. The lecturer did ask if the models were bald because of him, which made me laugh. Truth be told, if I can just not draw hair, I would have. But I feel like I have to. So I also drew the hairstyles, only simple ones though, as I'm bad at drawing hair (and fur).
Before near end of class, our lecturer started to brief us on Moodboard, as it is important to take note of it's criteria in order to make a nice moodboard. There were 6 criteria to look for and we were given the task to look for 5 images for each criteria.
(Moodboard criteria explanation)
Noting that, we all proceed to continue on our current assignment. For me, it's still drawing the hair and retracing them with pen. By the end of week, I had all of my models hair and faces, with their limbs attached. I also tried to look for the moodboard criteria, as I had time, and that I can just find it on Pinterest. I ended up with quite a few, because turns out it was a bit harder to look for Renaissance editorial pictures, that could show the notable signs (?) of a Renaissance inspired outfit (for me it's the sleeves, tight bodices and it's unique embroidery). Not to mention, I don't know if I can use AI-generated images so it became much more limited.
Week 6 (28/05/25)
This week, our lecturer would start consulting us and choose 5 designs so that we can move on to draw the technical drawings of it. So he asked the students who have done the 20 designs for him to look at and consult on those finalized 5 designs. As I was confused on the coloring section of the design, I wasn't completely done with it. I did finish retracing all the designs tho, so I just needed to scan it. He told me to continue on my assignment for the time being, as it is needed so that he would be able to choose 5 designs that we will have to develop into it's technical drawings.
Midway through class, our lecturer taught us on how to do the Moodboard properly. He used Josephine's as an example and looked for architecture-inspired fashion photo editorial. It was so cool to see how he mashed up the pictures, textures, and colors in order to create the moodboard. As he said, Moodboard is made to express the feeling we are feeling about out collection, and as a viewer, I can definitely feel that the collection is edgy, stylish, and cool. Sadly I don't have a picture to show you since I was standing a bit too far from the example...
After that demonstration, I continued on finishing my designs and placed it properly on a PPT. Even though I've only colored the hairs and eyes of the models, I didn't realize how tedious it is to even erase the background of pictures. Finally, almost at the end of class, I was able to finish my designs and print it out to be laid on our lecturer's table.
We sat for a while as he checked my designs. He picked 3 designs that looked interesting in his eyes, and told me to choose the 2nd last ones. In the end, I have 5 designs that are confirmed to be made into technical drawings. I walked home happy that day and tried to start making my Moodboard. I compiled photos (using keyword: rebirth, elegant, majestic, pure, white, and timeless) and started to mash the pictures together if it will look good. Though I was having a hard time looking for the specific yet simple embellishment online (which is gold lattice, btw), I ended up drawing it myself. Result was a bit unsure for me. I like it but it looked like there were too many empty spaces. So I just sent it to our lecturer online and waited for his response. His response was positive, but with the remark of showing it to him again next week so we can improve it into something much better.
Week 7 (4/06/25)
This week, the lecturer taught us on how to draw the technical drawing. To make it look neat, he gave us stencils to use. We copied the stencils on a cardboard, made a few sets so that we can share it with the rest of the class. Then he proceeded to show us how to draw using those stencils. He made an example of Yumna's and Josephine's designs to be made into technical drawing. It looked enjoyable to do, as it requires thinking about the possibilities of making this design happen irl. After that, he told us to start try making our own technical drawings.
(Stencils used)
(Yumna's set example of technical drawing by our lecturer)
(Example of technical drawings)
While some were drawing their technical drawings, some others were consulting their Moodboard with our lecturer. I was in fact one of them, as I was still unsatisfied with mine. When I showed it to our lecturer, he told me to look up objects that would represent our inspiration. For mine, he told me to try searching for sculptures. So I tried looking for sculptures on Pinterest, though I mostly found Davids' by Michelangelo. As my designs made were catered for women, I tried to look for something feminine. Then I found Pieta, also sculpted by Michelangelo, which shows us a depiction of the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Jesus after his crucification. It represented faith, and hope (as well as rebirth) as Jesus would later resurrect. Personally, I think it also shows how strong and pure Mary is, so I placed it on my moodboard as well.
After that, I continued on drawing the technical drawing. To be honest, I felt a bit worried and confused because most of the sleeves I used are puff or hanging sleeves. I was not sure how to draw it but good thing we have the internet. By the end of the day, I was only able to finish one as time ran out. I think we might've spent the earlier part of class just cutting the stencils. On weekend, I continued on drawing the technical drawings and try to make it look similar as what I designed.
Week 8 (11/06/25)
I didn’t attend class this week because of stomach pain. While I didn't do much at home, I decided to continue doing my PPT. I finished the research part weeks ago, so I just have to make the PPT, and start making the conceptual inspiration. To make the PPT look more interesting, and represent Renaissance, I started to look up pictures of Renaissance paintings.
After that, I started to write the conceptual inspiration. It took me a while to look for words that is nice to read, as I try to make it sound beautiful when I read it, just like the example that our lecturer sent us weeks ago.
(My conceptual inspiration)
Week 9 (18/06/25)
This week, I was finally able to consult our lecturer on my technical drawings. He reviewed everyone's one by one, as it requires a one on one consultation. As he reviewed mine, he made adjustments on my technical drawings so that I can have an easier time doing the pattern drafting later on. I'm kinda sad to see it being altered but I totally understand as it would be my first time making a garment, and finish it in probably 4 weeks. When he asked me to choose one for my finalized design, I was a bit confused between two designs. I really love both, but I definitely had a favorite. In the end, I chose the design that I thought represented Renaissance better. After that, he gave me a heads up to start doing the lineart and discussed the preferred fabric for the design. Since Andrea was kind enough to provide us fabric samples, we were able to use it. I love the feel of cotton drill and cotton polyester (lighter than the cotton drill). Our lecturer asked us to use cotton drill, though, since it would be much better to use a a fabric with that weight as the cotton polyester was too light that it might not be able to maintain the structure of the design that we want.
He also brought in our senior's creation, before class started actually, to let us feel and see it up close. I love them all. If I can, I would actually wear them haha. He also briefed us on making the finalized look of the design, as it will be put on the PPT.
(Senior's creation)
(Finalized look explanation)
After class, I just continued to do the lineart of the technical drawing.
Though, my friends and I had planned a trip to the fabric store on Saturday. We went to Chin Hin Textile shop since it was recommended to us by our lecturer. As we needed to buy calico to tryout the pattern we're going to make next week, I ended up buying 6 meters of calico and 3 meters of cotton drill fabric. I really can't wait to start next week!
(Yumna, Xiaoyue, Josephine, and Shuvo; O took the photo :3)
(Attempting to find a button shop in the same district. Found only one, but too bad they were expensive and have to buy in bulk...)
Week 10 (25/06/25)
I missed class again :(. This time, I fell ill after a trip to the fabric store with my classmates. I began drafting at home. Or at least I tried to after I got better.
(Initial shirt pattern)
I was definitely clueless on what to do so I just drew the pattern by imagination, on an A3 drawing paper. I sent it to Ms. Melina, who is our Pattern Drafting and Garment Making lecturer. She gave me a thumbs up, and asked whether I wanted to try out the pattern. So I did, in a small scale. I tested the basic shirt pattern on a small-sized calico.
(Shirt Pattern)
It felt good to get my hands on the physical garment-making process as it was fun to do. In the end, I did not use the initial pattern that I made up in my head. Because I don't have the brains to count it's measurements at the time, or that if its actually possible. Instead, I tried to make one with the darts that was already introduced to me weeks ago. I'm starting to worry about the sleeves, though. I tried making it but I had to divide it into 3 parts for the puff to look puffy. It looks cute but I don't want it to look separated like that as it is not my design. I definitely have to consult about it with our lecturer next week.
Week 11 (2/07/25)
Since I had nothing but patterns that I tried to make last week, I set myself up to just start making the skirt first, as by design, it looked quite simple. It was worrisome as I kinda started late, and clueless. I started to draw the skirt pattern using the skirt block we cut weeks ago. It was the same process as when I made the calico skirt, the difference was the length of the skirt, and how it was asymmetrical now.
In my design, it looked like the cut was from mid thigh, but I feel like that would be too short and the model may feel quite uncomfortable with that despite that I would later be adding a draping after. So, instead, I measured and cut from 8 cm towards knee length, with allowance of 3 cm.
After finishing the pattern, I immediately cut it onto fabric and start sewing the darts. Then, I used the overlock machine for the sides of the skirt. This took me a while to do because all the machines were occupied and not to mention the bobbin thread somehow doesn't want to be sewn onto the fabric. It was quite frustrating so I called it a day after I was done sewing the zipper before connecting the front and back of the skirt together.
(Sewing the zipper)
On the next few days, I can't get myself to the studio as I was still a bit confused on how to do the skirt draping as I wanted it to have a flowy look. I tried using the calico because I don't want to use the cotton drill for practice.
(1st Attempt; not satisfactory)
Looking ag this, our lecturer told me to spare the calico to make it look more wavy. She also gave me a guide from Pinterest to help me understand better, as well as a tutorial video online.
Then, I also tried to draft the shirt pattern into life size, using calico, because i don't really know how tight it would be. After doing it, I realized that it is quite as wide as the waist of the skirt so I knew that I was safe.
With that in mind, I can start doing the shirt next week.
Week 12 (9/07/25)
This
week, I went to Masjid India district to buy more supplies,
specifically the buttons and threads that I thought I might need. Our
lecturer mentioned a place in Chinatown for us to buy buttons or other
types of accessories, but I wasn't quite sure how to look for the place
as I can't find it on the google maps. I did found cute buttons though, I
just hope that its huge enough, or nice enough for a go ahead to use
it. It was my first time in the district as well, so it was quite a fun
trip. Plus, I was not alone so I didn't get lost :3
(It was cute they had the signs on the road)
I
began to work on the shirt the next day after. I already cut the
pattern at home so I just had to cut the fabric in school. It looked
promising, but I was starting to worry if it were to be tight on the
model or not. I know, its soon to tell, and I did test it out on calico,
but I'm still uncertain about it a little bit. Though, mostly excited.
(A piece cut for the shirt)
After
that, I started to sew the pieces together, as it was divided into four
part for both front and back. I made a little mistake on the front
piece though, one of pieces was for the same side, by which they
should've faced the opposite area. I immediately cut a new one by
flipping the pattern and cut a new one. It was a waste of fabric but I
thought I could use the same pattern for both. Clearly the translation
in my brain went wrong.
(Redoing one piece of the shirt because of mistake)
(Trying to attach the front pieces and back pieces together)
After sewing the pieces
together, I started to make the flaps for the shirt. As our theme was
shirt, I tried to make sure that mine is a shirt. I noticed that there
were no pockets so I improvised by putting them on the flaps. By design,
we won't be able to see it up front but I thought it was a great idea.
So I put it onto the pattern for the front flaps. For this, I cut 4
pieces for each front (with pocket) and back flaps. Would've been better
if I consulted it with our lecturer first, but they all seem so busy
with a lot of students as well, so I didn't really want to disturb them
unless I really have to.
As the flaps were settled
(I just needed to wait for a sewing machine as my bobbin was being used
and the rest was gone somehow TT), I tried to be more productive by
making the pattern for the sleeve. I tried looking for them in Pinterest
for days now, since 2 weeks ago actually, but I haven't found that I
thought would suit my design well. Since it was quite desperate, I asked
our lecturer about it, and she told me to give height by around 3 cm on
the shoulder part of the sleeves. So I did. The closest thing I found
on Pinterest that would give me the wow factor on the sleeve area was
the Filipino sleeve. It looked so elegant, but it wasn't wide or puffy
enough. So I did add height, but I also applied the drafting of a puff
sleeve on them as well.
(Attempt to make sleeve pattern. It looked so big for only an upper arm area)
With the draft ready, I
cut it on a practice cloth (in this case, calico) to test out the
pattern. I showed it to our lecturer, and he gave an insight to make it
bigger, as it was quite small. I, too, agree with that, because it
really didn't show any wow factor that I'm trying to achieve.
I
tried to get everything early, so I made the collar pattern and the
waistband, since I have been stalling it for a while because I haven't
figured out the skirt draping yet.
(Waistband pattern)
It feels like I'm doing a lot at once but with little progress. My mind was so cluttered, still is though. After that I put it aside though.
Instead, I tried to put together the pieces of the shirt I have so far
on a mannequin. It looked snatched, just the way I want it, but I am
starting to get worry again that it would be too tight. Nevertheless,
our lecturer saw it and he asked me if I was planning to put lace since
there were ruffles on the design. I didn't actually plan to, as it was
not on the design, but I'm not afraid to experiment with it, well as
long as I'm still near the comfort zone I guess. So I agreed to it,
mostly peer pressure and that I can't say no, but it's not a bad idea. I
just didn't have any vision with it yet since I didn't think that I
would be doing lace for this project. He also asked if I wanted to just
use lace for the sleeve draping. I just said yes XD.
Next morning, I went to buy lace so that I would be able to show it
to our lecturer whether it's acceptable or not. I went to Masjid India
district again, alone this time, to hunt for lace (as it was already
late for me to buy it from Shoppee TT). I went to Gio's first because I
keep on hearing and seeing the place. I asked the clerk where they
display their lace and she showed me where. It was a massive place. Not
very much to my liking though. The laces were a lot, most of them are of
floral pattern and very shimmery. I was trying to look for french lace
or the likes, though, since during the era of Renaissance, they mostly
use Damask pattern and symbolization of status on their embroidery. But I
couldn't find them. These were the laces I quite liked from Gio's (though I don't think they represent Renaissance well).
(Much simpler look than the one above but it doesn't feel Renaissance to me too when I look at it)
So as a confused person in the middle of a new
zone, I asked my teacher places where I could buy laces. He mentioned
Bunga Reben, Gulatis, and another place that I couldn't pinpoint where.
So I walked down the street before finding Gulatis near Gio's, actually.
They had a variety of laces, though I am pretty sure I should be
looking for white. I told it to the clerk and he showed me where I can
look for the laces. There were a lot more laces than Gio's, but I know
what to look for so it was quite an easy lot to pick from.
The laces were very pretty, but then again, they're all floral (as in like too floral for it to look Renaissance). I found a pretty decent one though so I sent it to our lecturer. I explained to him that I think the lace would look nice since it kinda has a damask pattern on it (looks like a vase flower, though). He said it looks okay and asked if I like it. Honestly, I do like it, just needed a confirmation that it was indeed quite pretty. I bought the lace and stopped by Bunga Reben to buy the small lace (referencing the french lace and found it) then went to the mall first to eat lunch and went back.
I was planning to go to the studio to show the laces I bought. I fell asleep though, because of lunch and exhaustion (yeah, I haven't been outside for so long it tires me a lot). So, I decided to show it next week instead. Before that though, I tried to fix the sleeves a bit by subtracting the sleeve length because it was ridiculously too long (ugh, the misfortune of not preparing and confirming the master pattern TT). I don't know how it looked now but I did try on my sister's arm. I think the length is okay now but I'm still afraid to cut it onto the fabric, so I decided wait on it for next week.
On Sunday, I went to the studio though, after a lot of preparation. I know that the studio would be closed at 5 PM so I prepared what I needed to sew. I decided that I would focus on sewing the flaps, waistband, and collar. I cut the fabrics needed (and interfacing) then head out to the studio.
There were a lot of people today at campus. Most of them were wearing graduation robes so it must be graduation day. Walking through the path towards the studio, though, I noticed a very peculiar spot and it looked so fun and adorable. I mean, just look at this sight:
As I entered the studio, there were maybe only around 3 to 4 people, so it was quiet which I like very much. I focused on doing the waistband first since I've done it before. I ironed the interfacing onto the waistband before attaching the piece onto the top area of the skirt. I pinned it down and tried to sew it alongside its allowance. It was quite hard to do as I wasn't very neat with it (probably have to cut it more properly and carefully next time). Then I sewed 1 cm from both edges before flipping it inside out. After that, I just have to fold it in and pin it near the allowance of the waist area of skirt before sewing it. After sewing it, when I took a look at it, it was a bit wrinkly and the sewing isn't really neat. But since there were no time to fix it, I just immediately resumed on sewing the flaps and collar.

When sewing the flaps, I just make sure not to sew the pocket area and then I just ironed the flaps to flatten it after turning it inside out. For the collar, I ironed the interfacing first, and sewed around the edges and top (leaving the bottom open). Then I flipped it inside out. When I tried to pin it onto the shirt, though, it looked too long so I knew that I had to redo it. I'm pushing it to next week (tomorrow) though, since I no longer had time to.
