DST63504 [Introduction of Pattern Drafting and Garment Making] - Week 1
Hi, I'm Jelita Joice Maharani but most people call me Jelly. I'm currently a first year student of Fashion Design Technology in Taylor's University and this is how my first day (literally today :"D). First week was hectic but fun overall, it drained my energy so quick :D. However, my adrenaline is still pumping today which means I was feeling really cheerful hohoho...
Anyways, let me start it with this. I honestly didn't expect anything today, as in that the courses would be somewhat not engaging to us students at all since that was what I was used to back then (okay, maybe it was due to it being a med course lecture but that was what I was used to). OH BUT HOLY MOLY, it was genuinely fun and very engaging today. I met several new friends who has the same passion as me and it is a really exciting thought (because you guys... I honestly can't wait to see y'all's creations TT). Throughout orientation week I haven't met a fellow fashion student so it worries me a bit :3.
Right, we had the Pattern Drafting and Garment Making course today which is a new territory for me because all I've done ever is just designing garments (which I did randomly so I don't even know if I was doing anything right as long as it was fun to me haha). It was really interesting to see how a garment would be made later on by using patterns and it made me a teeny bit excited to try it myself.
Our lecturer for the course, Ms Melina, is very considerate to us because we actually came unprepared (and she did anticipated that lmao TT). She had us to start prepping for class a week ago with a very detailed plan and which materials or tools to bring for our first class but, honest to God, I didn't actually know she uploaded it in the app or Teams because I had no idea how to access it at first (now I do though so don't worry about me haha :v). Now that I know where my course materials would be, I promise I'll try to come more prepared next time because not having our own tools and materials is a difficulty itself.
So... the lecture for me today was a bit confusing at first. I don't know a thing about patterns or drafting (or both) and it was so confusing on where to look at first, or which part is which. But Ms Melina kinda ease it out for me to understand. Like I said, I can't wait to draft my own design one day. Nothing can change that, ever.
We we're introduced to several materials and tools that we're going to use one day (and buy for the time being). It's interesting to see how different tools such as even different needle sizes or needle types affect so much in fabrics that you choose. Then we we're introduced to garment blocks (since that was the main thing we were going to do today... as ASSIGNMENTS as well for the first day :"D). Nothing too crazy about that though, the sooner you learn, the more practuce you'll have, right?
So here were a couple of pictures where we're told to observe and label some more on the size/chart/labeled garment block that Ms Melina had provided us. We were then assigned to draw a new one on a Mahjong paper (size of a human, actually, which is going to be hard to do but necessary ofc). Picture courtesy of me and my new friend, Golo. (Thank you for the pics, bro!!!)
Oh, I also hope I'll do well both this task because I don't have the table for it (lol) nor dp I have the brains for it for now (haha TvT). I'll be sure to ask when I trouble with it but for now I just want to rest and get some sleep since I'm due a headache with everything new that has come around today (which are all wonderful, but my brain capacity shrunk so idk HAHA).
And here is the group pic to end this blog. I hope I'll get to know you all really well soon and good luck to all of us... (okay on second thought, it's barely a wefie lmao but still a group pic :D). Courtesy to Ms Melina, thank you for today miss!!!
