DST63504 [Introduction of Pattern Drafting and Garment Making] - Week 7
Hi, it's Jelly again :3. It's already week 7 now which makes me feel nervous because it means I'm near the end if the semester already. Well, maybe half-way through but still, time flew by so fast haha... :""
So last week Ms Melina gave us homework to do: Men's casual shirt block and men's pants block. But since I am done with the men's pants, I just worked on the casual shirt block. Kind of a big risk to take since the measurements were quite different, confused all the same, but it did look familiar with the one I did. Mine was checked already as well so I just skipped it to do the casual shirt block. It was quite easy to do as I don't have to recalculate the measurements (as it is already given by Ms Melina) and just drew as per instruction. And Tada! Just like that, and I'm done :3
Well not completely done I guess since I dont have an armscye ruler with me. But that's no worry. I can just borrow it from someone else in school, which I did on Tuesday morning. The minute the morning class ended, I immediately borrowed Yumna's ruler so I'm saved, yippee!
When PD&GM class started, I initially plan to do the waist band area of my skirt since that was my stop last week. Instead, I just dilly dallying around then go help my classmate (with Josephine) with his plastic blocks since he didn't have time to do it (he kinda missed the right time to do it with class as we were also swarmed with other tasks). We talked a bit as well while doing it, though, the only thing I remembered was that we were talking about animals with their distinct scents. That was one weird yet fascinating things to talk about since I guess everybody has different scent theyre more sensitive to.
Right after that, we went back to the main studio to make progress with out skirt. As I measured the skirt wrongly last week for the waist band, I remeasured it correctly (mine is 80cm by 10 cm), cut the calico, add 6 cm for allowance (I dont know what to call it) and overlock one side. Then, I recieve the interfacing (86 cm subtracted by 2.4 cm) for waist band from Ms Melina, marked 1.2 cm from each edge of the calico and sewed it in the middle of the interfacing (near the center of the fabric as it should be adjacent to it after folding the calico into half (as in 10/2 = 5 cm)).
After I'm done with that, I sewed the fabric near the end of the interfacing (the side that is closer to the edge of the fabric) carefully before attaching it to the waist band area of the skirt. I pinned it the way the interfacing would be facing outward and folded the waist band so that it would face inward. It's a bit hard to explain though as I forgot to take pictures. Then I just sew 1 cm from the edge and sew both ends of the waistband right after.
Now, the next thing I did was a hard thing to explain about. After sewing both ends, I folded the waistband, like inside out, before tucking the excess of the waistband inside, leaving a small space for me to sew on to seal it. Dear me forgot to sew my name on it so I had to restitched a few stitches but everything went okay. The end results look great in my opinion as well.
Again, though, time flew by fast and before we went home, Ms Melina gave us another homework to do, as least to prep for next week's task as we will be making a blouse. She only told us to trace the fitted bodice block and how to do it. She explained how the darts work, where to cut and where to fold in order to make a new block. For this blouse, we will be using the side dart so she introduced us to that using a cut out from mahjong paper and told us to do the same. I wrote down all in the notes so at least I won't be forgetful about the instructions, well, hopefully. The measurements were taped nicely in class for everyone to see, though.
When I went home that day, I told Josephine that I plan to hijack Class B's class next Thursday so that was what we did. My expectation was that class B would have more information since they're more advanced than us, I think. Except that they basically were told the same thing, with additional minor information, more explanation on the blouse and button plackets. But in the end, I just tried to draw, be confused about the difference between the front and back blocks, and share stories with friends who came to school that day.
So it has been a chill week for me, and I'm happy for that. Happier that my skirt is done, though. I just have to sew a button and I'll be done. I cannot wait to make a blouse, though, so see you guys next week :3
