DST63504 [Introduction of Pattern Drafting and Garment Making] - Week 2

Hello, it's Jelly again! I made it to 2nd week and I was quite happy with it. I still have my adrenaline pumping because all of these activities that is related to fashion is making me feel giddy. It felt like I was on my way on reaching my goal to become a successful fashion designer :D.

Last week, we drew a a tailored skirt block on Mahjong Paper. The process itself was fun and it felt enjoyable doing such a practical thing. I had some confusion here and there but I managed to consult about it with Ms Melina and was able to be done with it. This is how I did it so far... (it's complete though)

I also accidentally tore the paper one time, which made me a little bit bummed out at first because I had to redo it all over again, but it's fine. It was first time trying to do this and it was always fun to learn something new (my curiosity knows no bound actually :3). Not to mention, we get to do it again this week to draw a shirt block! I actually got feedback from Ms Melina so I still have to fix it a little bit. Okay, but before that, let me tell you how my day went for this week's class...

It has only been a week after since this semester has started and I've been late to several classes already TT. I was so worried about it so I left home earlier than I would (because sometimes unexpected things could happen when you last expect it and you would suddenly be late to class :v). I was a few minutes earlier than usual and saw that some of my classmates were there, waiting for the door to be opened. We waited for several minutes right after the supposed schedule would start. Given that some of my other classmates who decided to stay in school were not there (in front of class, waiting) as well, I thought I've missed a message or 2, or something that implied that we are going to use another classroom for the day...

Anyways, Ms Melina suddenly appeared like a godsend she is. I almost immediately feel relief because I cannot wait to submit my homework and get them graded :3. We all went inside the classroom and put out our homework to let her check on it. We had another assignment last week that I forgot to mention. It was the weaving assignment. I think we all did that really well. This below was my weaving assignment. I'm proud of it, it looks really neat.

(Weaving Assignment End Result)

Right after that, Ms Melina distributed the measurements for the close-fitting bodice block. When I first saw it, my eyes lit up like I was in a craze. It looks so complicated that now I understand why Ms Melina told us to start with the skirt block. Thankfully, she explained it well and provided the exact measurement for the bodice block. We all started to label each measurement on the drawing to make it easier for us to measure it on the mahjong paper.

Then, the drawing session began :D

I laid out my tools and moved to the other table to make space for my mahjong paper. I positioned by L-ruler and drew a 5 by 10 cm border on the paper. It was then time to draw the easier shapes or measurements of the bodice. It was no easy task but I enjoyed doing it a lot. There was some few mistakes I made but I can just erase it. Then came the more complicated parts (the armhole is a bit of a torture :")).

(Progressing)

I started to find the right curve for the armhole but then the armhole area looked a bit weird for me. I tried to fixed it a few times and the end result isn't really up to my liking but I do think it looks better now.
(End of Session Result)

When the session ended, I was still not done with my work yet. I just had to label the measurement and add the header but I can just continue it at home. The next thing to do on the list today was supposedly trying to sew using an industrial sewing machine, but everyone was so caught up with drawing the bodice block that we even almost forgot about the attendance that should've been marked ages ago.

In the end, we didn't have enough time for it, and to be honest I felt quite relief with it because, least to say, I wasn't ready to use a sewing machine yet haha. I am very interested in using one and can't wait to be taught on how to do it, but deep inside, I am afraid of getting hurt. My friend Josephine just said that morning that it is a normal occurance to have sewing accident and my bro just opened my eyes on that possibility (because I didn't even know that we can get hurt by using a sewing machine :"D). I guess when the time comes, we should just be more careful when using one. I know that I would so... I hope I won't get hurt one day.

Anyways, since we didn't have time to learn sewing, Ms Melina just gave us another assignment. We were told to sew 7 types of stitches by hand and gave us a tutorial on it before we went home. Overall it was a quite nice day. Sure, we had more assignments to do but they're all necessarily done. I already can't wait for next week's class :3.
