Hello, it's Jelly :D Going through 4th week was a breeze for me. Maybe because of the relief I had from week 3 after I did the blocks on mahjong paper. I finished the dart block drawing and then made several dart manipulations using the mahjong paper.

I enjoy doing the darts a lot (it is kind of like origami, and I love origamis). I only have to make teeny tiny so I really had a good time making those. Just take a look at these :3 (Sorry, it's going to be a long scroll :x)

I don't know why but I felt so proud when I finished that. It lightened up my mood a lot and I might be very smiley at school the next day, haha. Nonetheless, I lost sleep again despite the excitement it got me, but my sleep schedule wasn't fixed yet so yeah, I guess I still have that issue :"3...
On the very next day (Tuesday, 13/05/25), I brought the skirt block with me because Ms Melina told us to also trace it on the plastic. Since we couldn't figure out what time we should be doing it during the 3rd week, we decided to do it on Tuesday before class. And so, some of us did. We planned to do it in the library but I guess I wasn't being clear about it :"D. Instead, we did it during class because we were also waiting for the studio to be opened, in order to get the rest of the plastics.
So, for the first hour of class, some of us did the blocks that we weren't able to finish. Some still drew on the mahjong, because they need help with, and the rest did on the plastic block. As for me, I was about to just dilly dallying around because i have no idea on what to do since I was done with everything. Ms Melina told me to collect money, list the names that have paid for the items and so I did. It was a confusing and so unproductive hours for me because I am a scatterbrain that needs help to actually figure out what things to do first TT. Other than that though, I tried to help Lynn with his sleeve block because he didn't have the measurements for it. I gave his the measurement and tried to explain on what to do first with the sleeve because I was having a hard time figuring it out at first, so I was just trying to make it easier for him to understand... Hopefully, he didn't get more confused because of me :"D because I was confused myself when I first started to lend him a hand at that.
On the 2nd hour, though, is when the fun starts. Ms Melina explained to us about the darts, what it is for, and how to do it, as well as gave us the correct base for the bodice shape. It's fascinating how it would then lead us to manipulate the fabric and I cannot wait for experimentation, with guidance, of course. I also submitted the darts I made and she told me to put color paper on the darts which is no issue for me :D. At the least, I know now that I understood the darts correctly.
Then after, she explained the fabric terms (Grainlines and bias), types of zippers and also how to use the industrial sewing machine (She also gave us a ppt on sewing inside the group chat). It is kind of a tricky one at first, but after practice, I grew to understand how to use it. She also told us to prepare A4 sized calico then divide it into 4 (horizontally), and another A4 calico to draw a semi circle on one side and a square on the other. Because right after that, we got some practising to do :3

(Explanation of where the thread goes for the overlock sewing machine to work)
(5 thread overlock sewing tutorial)
When it was our turn to sew using the 4 evenly divided A4 calico, I did all but one (5 thread Overlock), because the thread in that machine keeps on breaking and even has to redo it over and over. But the rest? Ooh, my calico has never looked more handsome :D
(2 threads, 3 threads, 4 threads Overlock Stitches. All handsome and nice to feel :3)
It was sad not being able to do it but we were about to run out of time so some of us skipped the five thread overlock (there was no time to fix). So right after, Ms Melina gave an explanation on another sewing machine... she explained to us the importance of inserting the thread in the right place and order (she also sent us a video on it) and bobbins. At the time, I was actually still confused about the bobbins and what it does but I did understand it right after when the machine I was using ran out of the 2nd thread (it's white on mine) and Yumna helped me fixed it (by getting the bobbin out, checking the thread and reinsert it into the machine again). On that day though, I wasn't able to do mine because everything was occupied and time ran out quickly... Instead, a few of us planned to have an extra class with Ms Melina on the next day.
(Ms Melina explaining to us the ways to insert the thread into the machine)
So on the next morning, I went to school earlier for the extra class. I initially thought I would be done with the sewing but nope :3. On my first attempt on sewing, it was so wobbly that it almost put me into shame HAHA. I was freaking out a bit because I arrived earlier than the rest so I was testing the waters first.
(First attempt :"D)
It turns out that I did not use the machine correctly. I did not put the footer on its place so there was no stability, hence, wobbly result. Frustration aside, I was happy to know what the problem was so I decided to redo all over again (thankfully I stopped right after taking that picture lol). So I retrace the A4 calico and Ms Melina told us to sew around the semi circle and rectangle, inwards and outwards, then also sew a straight line in between the semi circle and rectangle. I did quite well, I think. (Pictures courtesy of Josephine, thank you gurlie)
(Not us, taking pictures of each other lmao)
I was still not done with it, though. At 2, we have Introduction to Fashion Design, so we stopped everything to attend the class. Before that, though, Ms Melina has mentioned that we are going to sew a skirt block next week so I can't wait for that :D. As for the sewing progress, I'm thinking of continuing it on next Monday because I had to move out this week. Other than that, I just had to fix my dart for resubmission and attempt to do the dart exercise. I cannot wait for next week, though. It is time for lifesize work!
See you next week, then!
